The Chinese dizi is a side-blown bamboo flute that has one extra hole cut between the embouchure hole and the finger holes. This extra hole is called the Mo-Cong. It's purpose is to have a membrane, called a Dimo, pasted over it. When the air passes through the tube this membrane vibrates, giving the Dizi its distinctive buzzing quality.
