Saxophones

The saxophone was invented by Belgian, Antoine Joseph (Adolphe) Sax, around 1840. Sax, an expert musician, became aware of the tonal disparity between strings and woodwinds, as well as brasses and winds. He wanted to create an instrument that would bridge the gap between these three instrument sections. Sax likely combined the conical body of an ophicleide (now obsolete) and the mouthpiece of a bass clarinet, and the saxophone was born. The first orchestral use of the saxophone was by Kastner in his 1844 composition, "Le Dernier Roi de Jude." It has since been used by many prominent orchestral composers including: Prokofiev, Ravel, Bizet, Mihaud, and many others.

Tereasa plays on a Selmer Soprano Sax, a Yamaha Alto Sax, a Selmer Tenor Sax, and a Yamaha Baritone Sax.
